What shall I do with all these figurines that mummy used to cherished so dearly?
These angels, who in her dreams, carried her away to paradise in their dance, this delicate porcelain couple, symbol of an idealized romantic love?
What about this Virgin Mary and this cross that accompanied her on her pilgrimage to Mariazell to fulfill her secret dreams.
Here they are, in my closet, gazing at me, motionless, as if awaiting something momentous.
So one spring day in 2011, I took a cherub with me, submerged it in water, and photographed it.
And thus, it all began.
Then followed other inspirations, the trees, the dogs , all loving beings."
Self-taught photographer, Anne-Katherine Meeùs was already experimenting , at the age of 15, double exposure photography with her Twins Lens Rolleiflex, superimposing images of landscapes and people on the same negative.
In 2003, she left the wordl of financial markets to follow “The Photographer Short Course”, at Central Saint Martin, in London.
Since 2010, she started obsessively photographing small baroque figurines - cherubs, porcelain couples - inherited from her mother, taking them along on her travels. This series of travelling figurines is called "Apparitions".
In these "Apparitions" , the figurines stand in wild open spaces, timeless, like in a dream, as if they were taking energy from the elements - water, air, snow, plants, animals - surrounding them. Hence, they lose their status of inert objects.
These "Apparitions" have been shown in several exhibitions (see Exhibitions)
Today, the artist is following her dream of creating a more peaceful world through her work, whether it be
through dreamlike water abstractions or a series highlighting the benefits of trees
Born and raised in Belgium, Anne-Katherine Meeùs lived many years in London before moving to Paris where she has been living for 20 years.

Ces anges qui, dans ses rêves, l'emmenaient au paradis en dansant, ce petit couple en porcelaine, symbole d'un amour romantique idéalisé, et cette Vierge Marie, et cette croix qui l'accompagnaient sur le chemin de Mariazell pour exaucer tous ses vœux?
Ils sont là, dans mon placard, ils me regardent, immobiles, comme s'ils attendaient que quelque chose se passe.
Alors un jour de printemps 2011, j'ai emmené un angelot avec moi, je l'ai plongé dans l'eau et je l'ai photographié.
Et tout a commencé.Ensuite sont venues les autres inspirations, les arbres, les chiens, tous les êtres d'amour..."
Photographe autodidacte belge, Anne Katherine Meeus s'amusait déjà, à l'âge de 15 ans à faire des doubles expositions photos, avec son Twins Lens Rolleiflex, superposant paysages et personnages sur un même négatif.
En 2003, elle quitte les marchés financiers anglais pour suivre « The Photographe Short Course», à Central Saint Martin, à Londres.
L'artiste avait hérité de sa mère une collection de figurines baroques - angelots, petits couples de porcelaine - qui dormaient dans un placard sombre.
Elle a l'intuition fulgurante de les confronter à la lumière irradiante de paysages aquatiques, flottant comme dans un temps suspendu. Un miracle de fraicheur !
Ainsi transposées en pleine nature, ces figurines acquièrent une présence particulière qui les fait exister autrement et réactive leur dimension symbolique.
En réenchantant ces objets, l'artiste tente de montrer que nos traditions liées à ces objets d'antan ont toujours leur place dans notre monde actuel.
Étonnantes, ces « Apparitions » ont fait l'objet de multiples expositions et sont entrées dans plusieurs collections dont la "Eileen S. Kaminsky Family Foundation" (ESKFF) aux USA.
Depuis l'artiste poursuit sa réflexion sur « la capacité de l'image à émerveiller tout en gardant sa part de mystère » au travers d'abstractions oniriques dans l'eau ou d'une série sur les bienfaits des animaux et des arbres.
Elle travaille actuellement sur de nouveaux projets photographiques s'inscrivant dans son rêve de trouver le chemin pour un monde plus pacifique.
Après Londres, Anne-Katherine actuellement vit entre Paris et Bruxelles
